Block of the Month

Fox & Geese Block of the Month laid out with members' contributions, March 15, 2009

The June Block is “ Down Memory Lane " , a scrap quilt design; white coordinating fabric plus a couple of scrap pieces are provided; members provide remaining scrappy rectangles that measure 2"x3.5". Stop by the Flying Geese before June 11, 2009 to pick up the pattern, and return the completed block to the June 14th meeting!
Each month we have a new block of the month in order to learn different techniques, make new blocks and share pieces of a future quilt. Organized by Peg Weston this year, each month a Block of the Month (BOM) volunteer presents instructions and most of the fabric to make the block. At the next meeting, the blocks are laid out and anyone who brings a block puts their name in for the drawing. A name is drawn and the winner gets all the blocks! Sometimes members enter "service" into the drawing so our BOM pieces will be sewn in a quilt for a service quilt recipient.
We need volunteers for this fun project which we all enjoy.  The Guild does reimburse your expenses for this.  Four months are designated to be “double” blocks, which means that members make two blocks:  one for the drawing and the other for service quilts. Shown below are two recent BOM patterns laid out during a monthly meeting.

To pick up the fabric & instructions, go to Flying Geese quilt shop in Kodiak. Results will be shared at the next meeting.
