Early History of the
Diocese
Here is a most
unusual saga: the courageous and colorful history of our Episcopal Diocese
in a vast land of extreme climate and great isolation. It includes the
stories of indomitable leaders, men and women who have labored for God
with a vision strong enough to endure the many obstacles in a place remote
from the mainstream of the Episcopal Church. It includes the stories of
lay people who have maintained strong Christian lives by relying on their
own faith and personal resources, often with little support from clergy or
community for long periods of time.

Centennial Commemorative Publication
The
Episcopal Diocese of Alaska celebrated its 100 year anniversary in 1995.
To celebrate the occasion the Diocese enlisted historiographer, Carol
Phillips, to write a book of our history.
The
book consists of many inspirational, personal stories, from the people who
worked to build the Episcopal Church in Alaska in its founding years.
