Wild Creek Lodge is located
at the head of Ugak Bay in Hidden Basin on the island of Kodiak. The
beautiful setting of Hidden Basin provides spectacular views of the surrounding
mountainsides and abundant wildlife. Eagles and sea birds of a great variety
can often be seen right from the lodge. Mountain goats and deer are frequently
viewed from the comforts of the living room. Six large picture windows
across the front of the lodge open the view to one of Kodiak's and Alaska's
most spectacular vistas.
From the protection of
Hidden Basin, clients venture out by boat to fish the waters of Ugak Bay
for halibut and salmon. Several streams are available nearby for salmon
and Dolly Varden fishing as well as right out the front door of the lodge
when the runs of salmon appear. Five species of salmon are available at
different times of the summer with red salmon coming first, followed by pink
and chum salmon later in the summer. Late in the summer and well into September
silver salmon appear. King salmon do not spawn in any of the streams of
Ugak Bay, however, they may be caught during the summer off the capes.
Your fish are cleaned
and prepared for your departure from Kodiak to insure that you will be
able to enjoy the tasty seafood upon your return home. Shipping is available
from Kodiak directly to your hometown or you may take your fish home
as extra baggage when you depart the island.
On occasion brown bear can
be seen on the beaches, mountainsides, or along streams. Guides carry weapons
to provide extra comfort to our guests hiking the beaches or fishing in nearby
streams. Early in the summer, the bears frequent the high country feeding
on new grasses and vegetation while moving into the salmon streams later
in the summer. Most of our guests want to see the giant Kodiak brown bear,
but from a safe distance. For those determined to see a bear we will travel
by boat to check out a number of locations, or Uyak Air Service has a guaranteed
bear viewing program. The flight for bear viewing involves an additional
charge.
We have accommodations
for up to eight guests at a time and will work diligently to make your
stay truly rewarding. The lodge itself has all the comforts of home with
a shower, one and a half bathrooms and two large bedrooms for guests.
The view from the upstairs library is one you won't soon forget. The lodge
is heated with a wood stove while a generator provides all the electrical
needs. A wood fired banya (Native Sauna), located next to one of our mountain
streams, provides a relaxing experience after a long day of fishing.
The food at Wild Creek
Lodge is often described
by our guests as the best
they're ever eaten.
While our menu focuses generally
on seafood with
salmon, halibut and crab
as mainstays, we provide
options for people who prefer
something other than
seafood. When was the last
time you ate seafood
that was truly fresh ?
