The diary of Captain Coffee starts at Mission Street Wharf in San Francisco, August 21,1897, when he boarded the power schooner Bessie K bound for St. Michaels, Alaska. On Board the schooner is the steam yacht El Sueno in which he ascends the Yukon River. Much time is spent prospecting above the Arctic Circle. This book was printed in 1986 by descendants of Captain Coffe in an extremely limited edition, intended only for family members, from the original journals and documents. Very good. 8vo, 200 pages. An account of the author's experiences while lost on Seward peninsula, Alaska, from July to September, 1900. Hall, a prospector in the Nome gold rush, was lost for 67 days in the wilds of the Seward Peninsula. He had with him only some matches, a knife, and a blanket. His survival story was so amazing that he was pressured into writing down his story, and in 1909 he published it in a very small edition. One of the great rarities of Alaska gold rush literature. In fact he was the doctor who performed the autopsy on Soapy Smith! He was the doctor on Mike Heney's staff during the building of the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway in 1898, and later in Cordova during the building of the Copper River & Northwestern Railroad.
