The Vincent Soboleff Gallery
The Crown Jewels of Alaska Postcards
John H. Grainger of Ketchikan, who collected Alaska postcards for decades, and was the author of Directory of Alaska Postcards: 1897-1940, had this to say about Vincent Soboleff postcards in interviews with the Anchorage Daily News and the Juneau Empire: "Probably less than a dozen different cards were produced, and Soboleff may have made only a few of each, says Grainger, who doesn't remember ever seeing a duplicate. The undivided back on the Soboleff cards indicates they were made before 1907."
"Among the rarest [Alaska] postcards are those with a single, undivided back and photo that was hand-painted by the photographer. They're beautiful," says Grainger.
For more info on the Soboleff's, see Alaska Journal, Winter 1971, Vol 1, No. 1, pages 29-33.

Vincent Soboleff as Boat Builder

The card was hand-colored by Vincent.  It's in very good condition. Has a misty look to it. This is the best Vincent Soboleff postcard I've ever found in 25 years of looking. The woman with the dark "tie" is Vera Bayers. Vera Soboleff Bayers was Vincent's sister, and was the mother of Capt. Lloyd H. "Kinky" Bayers, a famous old Juneau character.

Divided back, therefore 1907 or later.
