Technology and advancing knowledge require a knowledgable and well-trained
profession to manage information. As a field, librarianship is constantly
changing. There are programs and courses available through distance
education, from non-credit to master's level. Petersons Online offers information on distance education, and links
to schools: AcacemicInfo has a search engine for distance education programs, as well as other resources: AcademicInfo: Subject Guides & Online Degrees SLA, formerly the Special Libraries Association, offers self-paced online
courses, and more for continuing development: The University of Washington offers a certificate program for School
Library Media Specialist, which is approved by the UW Information School.
