MEMORANDUM FOR CAP/AK WING SQUADRONS
FROM: CC
SUBJECT: Policy Letter No. 18
Authority to Award Search “Find” Ribbons
1. CAPR 39-3, “Award of CAP Medals, Ribbons, and Certificates”, states:
21.d. Search “Find” Ribbon. Awarded by the wing commander (or a subordinate commander if authority is delegated by the wing commander) to any CAP member of the wing making a find (distress or nondistress) on a search and rescue mission. ….
2. The Alaska Wing Commander hereby delegates authority to the squadron commanders for the award of “Find” Ribbons to members of their respective squadrons. Commanders should review CAPR 39-3 for further details.
3. No mention is made of “Find” Certificates in CAPR 39-3. However, since most Alaska Wing members, apart from cadets, do not possess the type of CAP uniforms upon which ribbons are displayed, squadron commanders should also award “Find” certificates suitable for framing (and as documentation for their members’ records). Commanders may obtain blank “Find” certificates from the Alaska Wing Headquarters administrative office. Additionally, Alaska Wing will begin distributing the RCC’s monthly SAR report to the squadron commanders, so that they have a record of their unit’s achievements, as well as an awareness of the Wing’s overall SAR activities. Our members donate much of their time and energy to Civil Air Patrol without the expectation of publicity or reward, and this is one small but very important way of recognizing their contributions and achievements.
