Instructor and Check Pilots
1. In accordance with (IAW) CAPR 60-1,chapter 3.2, para d and e, all instructors must meet the requirements of the aforementioned chapter and paragraph to include the following additional requirements
a. All instructors must have a letter of recommendation to act as an instructor for the Alaska Wing Civil Air Patrol from their immediate Commander. The letter of recommendation must be forwarded and approved by the Wing Commander (CC).
b. A signed copy of the Wing’s CC/PCR CC approval will be entered into the instructor pilot file. A copy of the approval will be forwarded to the Wing Standard Evaluation Office. A listing of approved instructors will be posted on the Wing website.
c. All certified flight instructors are required to have logged a minimum of ten (10) hours of flight time in make and model of aircraft prior to qualifying as a CAP approved flight instructor.
d. Exception to the foregoing: Glider instructors must complete a minimum of ten (10) flights of a duration not less than 30 minutes in each make and model aircraft.
1. Besides the requirements of CAPR 60-1,Chapter 3,Para 3-3,a. 3), the qualifying Instructor must have a float rating and a minimum of twenty five (25) hour as PIC of a float equipped aircraft and five hours of instruction in make and model prior to giving a form 5 check endorsement.
2. Instructor applicant approved by the Wing Commander must meet the requirements of the National GA-8 program and have been trained and qualified by the two factory trained Wing CFI’s and are required to complete a year of PIC flight time in the GA-8 before they will be allowed to provide instruction to commercial rated pilot’s (requirement of National GA-8 program). Also, the approved and qualified instructor pilots that received their training from the factory trained CFI’s will be required to have spent a minimum of ten (10) flights of not less than 30 minutes each as PIC prior to requesting approval from the Wing Commander to instruct in the GA-8. Note: The check out in the GA-8 requires a recommendation ride and a check ride from the two appointed Wing CFI’s. The same CFI can not give both rides.
