MEMORANDUM FOR CAP/AK WING SQUADRONS
FROM: CC
SUBJECT: Alaska Wing Policy No. 4
Ski and Float Operations
1. This policy replaces the Alaska Wing/DOV letter on the same subject, dated 16 Nov 97, and is intended to convert the established guidance into the Wing’s standard numbered policy format.
2. IAW CAPR 60-1, para 2-2.b., this letter constitutes Wing Commander authorization for Alaska Wing aircrews, operating ski or float-equipped aircraft, to use landing/takeoff areas not listed in the current FAA airport/Facility Directory.
A. This authorization does not relieve aircrews from the responsibility of
ensuring that written permission has been obtained from the owner/operator of those areas prior to using them.
Note: A landing permit has been obtained for CAP Corporate aircraft to use Port Alsworth’s runway. The permit is located at Wing Headquarters.
B. The Pilot in Command (PIC) of an aircraft still bears final responsibility for the SAFE OPERATION of that aircraft and therefore ensuring the following conditions are met:
1. The landing area is safe in regard to length, size, and obstructions to landing and takeoff.
2. The aircraft is properly fitted and suited for the operations conducted.
3. The PIC has been properly checked out, is current, and has received CAP instruction in that aircraft in the landing/takeoff conditions being used.
