This short study is designed to help in your study of the Word of God. It
will take about 30 minutes or less.
For best results the student should:
1. Print this page 2. Have a Bible (preferably the King James Version)
An electronic version is provided, however I would prefer a
student to use their own bible if one is available. (If using the
electronic Bible be sure to change it to the King James Version).
3. Have a pen or pencil. As each scripture is read, please "fill-in-the-blank" of your study sheet.
(A answer sheet is provided at the end of the study)
4. Please Pray Before You Study, asking the Lord to guide you and bless you with understanding of his Word.
"(1 Pet 1:23 KJV) Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
Introduction
Our lesson is taken from the Book of Acts "ACTS OF THE APOSTLES".
The book of ACTS covers the actions and preaching of the Apostles. Though Acts 1:13 list the Apostles and Mary the mother of Jesus,
'13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.'
the book of Acts gives a more extensive account of the Apostle Peter and Paul than any othe apostle.
Another note concerning the book of ACTS is that the Apostles where empowered by the Holy Spirit,
so the book of Acts is also a record of the Acts of the Holy Spirit working through the Apostles.
Leading up to the Book of ACTS, Jesus instructed them on what they where to believe and preach.
Luke 24:45-49
"Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise
from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins
should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning in Jerusalem.
And ye are witnesses of these things. And behold, I send the promise of my
Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power
from on high"
Let us discover what happened and what was preached at Jerusalem ... The First Church, The Beginning
Acts of the Apostles
Chapter One
Acts 1:1-2
1. Immediately beginning the book of Acts, we find that _______________ through the _______________ ______________
had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen.
Acts 1:3-5
2. The disciples had come together at Jerusalem and were commanded to wait there for the ______________ ______ ______ ______________.
This was because they should be ______________ ______ ______ ______________ ______________.
Acts 1:8
3. Jesus said they would receive power after the Holy Ghost came upon them and then they would
be ______________ unto him.
Acts 1:9-26
4. The rest of chapter one concerns itself with the apostles returning to Jerusalem,
continuing in prayer and supplication. They also had to replace Judas. They
appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. Then
they prayed and ask the Lord to show them who he has chosen. They gave forth their lots,
the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
Chapter Two
Acts 2:1-4
5. The disciples were all together waiting for the Promise of the Father, when suddenly
there came a sound from heaven as a ________________ ________________ _________.
There appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all ____________ with the Holy Ghost, and began to _____________ with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 2:12
6. When this happened other people heard the noise of the disciples receiving the Promise of the Father.
They came and where in doubt and ask. "What ______________ this?.
Peter stood at this time and began to tell the people that what they are witnessing was
spoken by the prophet Joel; "And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh:...."
Peter comtinued telling them of the Lord, his crucification death and burial. He stresses
to Israel their sin in rejecting and crucifying their Messiah. He places emphasis on the resurrection
of the Messiah. Peter pointed out Jesus was the Lord and Christ!
Acts 2:37
7. After hearing this, "they said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and
brethren, ____________ ____________ we do?
Acts 2:38-39
8. Peter again responded to their questions,
Then Peter said unto them, __________, and be ______________ every
one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the ______________ of sins, and
ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
9. He ensured them the ____________ is unto you, and to your children, and to all
that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall _________.
Acts 2:47
10. And the _________ added to the ____________ daily such as should be _________.
After studing the scriptures we can see how the Church was started and what doctrines the
Apostles taught. This was in alignment with what Jesus had told them to preach,
"And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His
name among all nations, beginning in Jerusalem".
Do you believe Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior?
Do you believe it is necessary to repent, (turn from sin and give your life to God)?
Do you believe water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is the biblical way to be baptized?
Do you believe the baptism of the Holy Ghost is for you today
and when you receive it you will speak in other tongues,
just as they did in the bible?
If you believe these things, Pray right now, Asking God to forgive you of your sins
and Ask him for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
