Inerrancy of the Word of God
For centuries the majority of christians have accepted the Scriptures as The Holy Bible, and believed it to be God’s revealed word or message to mankind. They believed it was free of mistakes (without error), that it could not be wrong on any subject (infallible), and that it came from God himself through specially chosen people (inspired). The belief that the bible was God’s written Word comes from the bible itself as found in 2 Timothy 3:16 as well as from Jesus in John 10:35.
We know that through the centuries men have attacked the Word of God concerning it’s accuracy. We see this today in the attack on the bibles account of the creation story, the diety of Jesus, the miracles he performed, the resurrection, the account of the bible on some old testament history, and many more.
Being that secular teaching has such a impact on our cultures today, I believe people should also learn about the Word of God. This will increase our faith as we go back to bible reading and bible study. I invite all people to read the bible and consider it’s words. In our church we encourage all people to read through the bible in one year through the B.R.E.A.D. (Bible Reading Enriches Any Day) program.
Let’s look at some points concerning the Word of God.
1. GOD ONLY WROTE THREE TIMES.
a. The Ten Commandments
(Exo 31:18 KJV) And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him
upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger
of God.
b. Belshazzar’s Wall (Dan 5:5 KJV) In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
c. Jesus wrote in the dust of the floor in the temple
(John 8:6 KJV) This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But
Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them
not.
2. BIBLE HAS ONE AUTHOR BUT MANY WRITERS
This is accomplished because God's Word was written under the inspiration of God:
a. It is written by inspiration
(2 Tim 3:16 KJV) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
All scripture refers to the entire bible (old and new testament). This means that the
Word of God has been kept from error. It’s doctrines and facts are true.
The Word of God says what God meant to say to us. There is no mistake about it.
b. From this text you can see men were moved by the Holy Ghost and prophecy came
forth.
(2 Pet 1:21 KJV) For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men
of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
By Inspiration Of God means "God Breathed". The author of the Bible is
declared to be God himself, as he "breathed" upon the men wrote penned his Words
for him. Because of the inspiration upon holy men the Word of God is as if God himself
spoke it with his own lips. This is why we should study all the Word of God. There is no
scripture that is inspired more than another. "All Scripture Is Given By Inspiration
Of God". We shouldn’t pick and choose what we would like to believe out of the Word
of God.
3. JESUS TAUGHT THE INERRANCY OF THE BIBLE:
a. (John 10:35 KJV) If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the
scripture cannot be broken;
Jesus who came from heaven, the son of God, he said the scriptures cannot be broken.
As a matter of fact he went so far as to say, (Mat 5:18 KJV) For verily I say unto you,
Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till
all be fulfilled.
He saw it, that even a ‘jot’ or something as small as a apostrophe or ‘title’ the
crossing of a ‘T’ should not be changed. That’s how much he thought of it as being without
error. He said heaven and earth will pass away, but not his words, (Mat 24:35 KJV) Heaven and
earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Jesus undeniably took the Word of God to be true.
4. JESUS ACCEPTED THE BIBLE STORIES
a. (Mat 12:40-41 KJV) For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly;
so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. {41} The
men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because
they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
Here the scribes and pharisees are seeking after a sign for Jesus. He said no sign will
be given except the sign of the prophet Jonah. Here he authorized it as true. A book
that some critized as being fiction. Jesus used it to give them a word concerning a sign
they were seeking.
b. Jesus didn’t question the biblical account of creation.
(Mat 19:4-5 KJV) And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which
made them at the beginning made them male and female, {5} And said, For this cause shall
a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one
flesh?
He saw the creation account as found in Genesis as absolutely true! As you read the
Bible you find he cited other old testament stories certifying them to be true.
Adam and Eve (Matthew 19:4-6), Satan (Luke 11:18), Noah (Matthew 24:37)
5. PROPHECY SHOWS THE BIBLE IS TRUE AND WITHOUT ERROR:
a. (Psa 119:89 KJV) LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
As we search the scriptures we find that prophecy of the past have come true or been
fulfilled as predicted.
Unfortunately we don’t have enough time to cover all the prophecies in this study, but, there are many that have been prophecied about. There is, the coming savior, his life and death. Prophecy concerning the troubles of the world, the moral nature of man, Israel’s status, survival, defeat, restoration.
As the scripture above states ,"thy word is settled in heaven" we need to take the Word of God as truth and follow after it. We need to believe it as the inspired Word Of God and trust in it.
The fulfilled prophecies are only another confirmation that the Word of God is true and without error.
We should concern ourself with the reading and study of the Word of God.
