You can get to this trail by driving down the Copper River Highway to mile 48. The trail is 1.2 miles long. You can go there in the summer and fall. The use of this trail is very heavy and it's an easy trail.
This trail begins at the Million Dollar bridge viewing platform of which contains information on the history of the Million Dollar bridge. It then follows an old road along the Copper River where an excellent view of the glacier can be seen at main sections. Next, the trail enters thick vegetation and parallels the river until reaching the Child's Glacier Recreation Area. A few sections along this trail are being reconstructed or rerouted due to wave action from glacial calving.
The Child's Glacier Recreation Area includes a handicap accessible viewing platform with information panels, 6 picnic sites, rest rooms, and parking areas. From the platform, one can view the 300 ft. high glacier located 1000 ft. across the powerful Copper River. During high water and on warm days, the calving ice from the glacier may cause large waves to break over the beach. Be prepared to move to higher ground at all times. Also, watch for stranded salmon (called glacier fishing!)
