SQUAREBANKS UPSETS LOS ANCHORAGE IN SMACKDOWN
| The
Squarebanks team finally took care of their home court advantage and
pulled an historic upset of the guys from Los Anchorage at
Saturday's Smackdown. Los Anchorage players Albert Circosta,
Charles Lindemuth, Brett Miller and Rich Curtner carried Los
Anchorage as far as they could, going 21-6 against Squarebanks'
best. Unfortunately, Jon Shipman, Mike McRae and Matt
Thorpe could only manage two victories in 22 games to completely
bring down the Los Anchorage team. (Andy Zywot did what he could
by taking his typical 0 wins and 8 losses fishing on the
Kenai.)
Final score: Squarebanks 27 - Los Anchorage 22.
Many thanks to Michael
Carbajal and the Fairbanks team, (Karl Monetti, Phil Yonkers, Chris
Sexton, John Phillips, Kevin Turnbough, Tod Sformo,
Adam and Erik Gabrielson) for hosting another great tournament and
party, and to Matt Thorpe for hosting the party bus.
Mark next year's Smackdown
on your calendar, the Sunday of the Golden Days festival July 18,
2009..

ASHA MISSION STATEMENT
It is the mission of the Alaska State Handball Association to promote
the game we all love, the perfect game, handball, throughout the state
of Alaska.
The ASHA is a non-profit association that promotes handball in three important
ways. The first is to organize a series of annual tournaments that bring
the community of players together for competition and camaraderie, culminating
in the state singles and doubles championships.
Secondly, the ASHA facilitates connecting Alaskan handball players with
other players around the country and the world. ASHA supports the United
States Handball Association and strives to bring professional handball
players to Alaska as often as possible.
Finally, and most importantly, ASHA is committed to the development of
young players who can carry on the great tradition of handball into the
future.
The ASHA Board of Directors is a completely volunteer board which enlists
the services or many ASHA members towards these goals. We all gladly dedicate
our time in return to a game that has given so much to us!
