I have always been impressed by the interesting courthouse buildings which typically are situated in the middle of most small Georgia towns. Brick, marble, and regal columns are some of the features which command my attention when they appear while driving though Georgia. I was born and raised in Georgia, but have lived a large portion of my life in Alaska after having been introduced to the far north country by the US Air Force. I have maintained my southern connections by returning for visits once or twice yearly.

Roads have improved over the years making travel safer and more enjoyable, but the new highways often by-pass the business districts and the courthouse squares. I decided that it would be fun and interesting to see more of the state and learn more Georgia history; therefore, I thought that finding and photographing the county courthouses usually would take me to the town centers.

When I started this project, I was naïve enough to think that it may not have been done. A quick google search burst that bubble, but my enthusiasm is not dampened since my objective is to see not only the courthouses but also the state in general.

This is a work in progress, so please be patient. My long-term goal is to have photos of each of the county courthouses and plaques. I haven't visited every county yet and we are just starting this web page so we will be adding counties as time and trips permit. All the photos in this page are mine and you are welcome to use any of them but, please as a courtesy, let me know if you do use them.

There are two options for selecting a county:

1. Click here for a county map and select one of the red tinted counties, or

2. Click here for a text list of counties sorted alphabetically.
