Melanoma in the organs...

1- My Mother has Melanoma on the brain, liver and lungs! For years, she had small spots removed from her arms and legs. Then, one kept reoccurring behind her left ear. She had multiple surgeries on it. They removed the lymph nodes and surrounding tissue in her jaw. It kept coming back. Not sure as to why she didn't have scans done after each surgery-maybe because she doesn't have health insurance? Or doctors' negligence?....6 weeks ago, she went to the emergency room with numbness on her right side. 3 tumors on her brain was the cause. After a body scan, they found multiples on the liver and one on each lung. After 14 days of radiation to the brain to control the swelling she is now taking chemo- pill form (timador?) Her body is too weak for full chemo. Or they are just trying to pacify her, not sure. They haven't put a time on it. They can't! I figure I may have a year or less with her and it scares me. I'm mad that it even got to this point! For everyone out there who has just found and has a good report...count your blessings! And get a body scan!!!! We didn't have a clue as to how ugly this melanoma can become. My Mother is only 54 and has 3 grandchildren under the age of 3. It's not fair that she may not even get to see one of them walk! Is there anyone out there who has had a similar experience or just wants to talk?  melissacan  4-17-02
2- Sorry to hear your news. I have melanoma in my lymph system. It took 6 months for Oregon's health system to finally do something. They took out 10 tumors in October and now I am on Interferon. One thing I have learned from this is we need to stay involved in our own health care. Sometimes that's hard to do when your in treatment. Prayer works CarlaJ  4-17-02
3- My mother-in-law, in March was told she melanoma in her liver. Three years ago, they found she had ocular melanoma and she had to have her eye removed and had been checking her all along but just found this. She too, is on Timador and now is taking her third round of it. She will have a CT scan done this month to see what the liver looks like now.

How is your mom doing and how is she feeling? My mother-in-law tires real easily and is in quite a bit of pain, but manages it with pain patches. drewcee 6-2-02

4- My Fiance had ocular melanoma and his eye was removed 4 years ago. We have just discovered that now it has spread to his liver. They have given him 4 months to live. We are scared to death we both have alot of faith and are very strong willed we are stepping up our wedding date to this Saturday 8/10/02 as we feel that we can fight it better as a team we plan to fight this as much & as hard as we possibly can. He is on Temodar now, his Dr. says that this is what has been proven to work the best in fighting this type of cancer. Please give us any advice, suggestions, experience and prayers possible. Thank you marthacw  8-6-02
5- My husband has had four surgeries and 8 high doses of radiation. He is to start the Interferon treatments on the 21st. His doctor has never mentioned the timador. Is this something new? He is Stage 3. Love and Prayers. fraz 8-17-02

7- Sweetie I just went through the same thing. My Aunt had a mole on her right leg her whole life about a year ago we noticed it had gotten dark. My Uncle fought and fought with her to go get it removed but she never did.! On January, 7th 2003 we took her to the hospital because her right groin area was as swollen as a grapefruit. We were told she had malignant melanoma cancer. And that swelling was the cancer, it spread up her leg into her groin were it got infected. After al kinds of test we were told it was already in Stage 4 and that it had spread to her liver, and lung. We decided to take her home so we could spend time with her. after about two days she got worse. Back to the hospital the finally!!! did a brain scan and found out she had one tumor 1 to 2 inches on her brain. We were told she would go into a comma. One week later she did and she died the next day. After one month of finding out she had this she was dead. ONE MONTH!! It is a horrible thing! She was only 46, she had 5 kids,22,20,18,15. Melanoma cancer is a dirty disease and a lot of people don't even know how fats it spreads. I wish you and your family the best. God bless you catsugar 2-10-03
8- My mother had just about everything you've
said about your mother. Last March my world
came down when i was with her and heard those
words you have cancer. She was misdiagnosis, so by time they found she had melanoma ,she had it in her liver and lung, then it moved to her brain, she had the lowest amount of chem. just to ease the pain, i guess, the last visit we found out it was to late, every tumor had gotten larger, she passed away in October, She was 56 yrs old with 5 grandchildren, she'll never know mine, nor see me marry. She was to young as well, a loving mom, as well as great friend, I wish i could say she made it, and is doing great, wish i had good news on my end for you, I hope your mother pulls through. thought i would share my story. melinsmom 4-21-03
9- My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer, it turned out to be metastatic melanoma. They say there are tumors on his adrenal glands, but so far not on any vital organs. I am scared to death. I love my dad.....Is there any hope?

10- My father was diagnosed with Melanoma 12 years ago. They found a mole on his back and removed it taking out a large area of his shoulder on the back and doing a skin graft. At that time they said they had gotten it all and never mentioned that it could have spread to internal organs at anytime. Well 1 year ago on Mother's Day my father collapsed and after 2 months and several hospital stays it was determined that he had metastic malignant melanoma and had a large part of his small intestines removed that is where the growth was well they said he wasn't a candidate with chemo so they just kept checking him well a couple weeks ago he found a lump on his arm and they removed it and did a biopsy. It was malignant. He has several other ones that they are unable to remove due to location so he has started chemo today. I am so scared if this chemo doesn't work they the doctor said the news isn't good. I lost my sister 5 years ago to cancer of the uterus and 2 uncles to pancreas and lung cancer (his brothers) in the last couple years...it is so scary... 11- I would love to just talk. My husband was just recently diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma also, in January, 2003. He had the muscle and 15 lymph nodes in the neck removed in March, which they found only 2 to be affected. On September 9th, 2003, was admitted to the hospital because of numbness to the arms, hands and shoulder areas, they did MRI's and discovered a tumor on his spinal cord at the lower part of the brain near the brain stem and did a couple more MRI's and also found several more in the brain. This is only 2 weeks new, so I am not sure what I am suppose to be feeling. I know that his kids, who live 700 miles away from us, ages 20 today, and will be 18 on December 31s, have not had much time with him over the past 10 years are not feeling the same sense of urgency of spending time with him like I do. I know that is not my problem, but I can't help feeling sad, because if something should happen, which we got told that if the radiation can not put it to sleep, as this type never goes completely away, they will feel very guilty (at least I think they should), We did find my husbands best friend from high school that we lost touch with over the last couple of years, and are trying to make arrangements for him to come down from Nevada to spend some time with him. I am just not sure what I am suppose to do next. I thought melanoma was skin cancer, it isn't. The case had nothing to do with the skin, it started with a lump in the neck. I do pray for everyone with this disease, and that they find a cure for it. If you would like to talk, I would be glad to listen. TimKel  9-22-03
12- I am looking for information regarding rare cancers, as a chemical I've been studying for this past year, as it turns out is not only a solvent, but also a pesticide. I suspect that it causes cancers relating to the endocrine system, such as Exxon Valdez oil spill cleanup workers and the Gulf War Vets seem to be experiencing. Were your loved ones among those affected by this chemical? www.valdezlink.com/what_exposures.htm

Also, since the USA has not studied cancers caused by 2-butoxyethanol,
www.valdezlink.com/generic.htm#behind

Its current cancer research of secondary cancers caused by 2-butoxyethanol are therefore, skewed!
www.valdezlink.com/no_match.htm

There is such a thing as second hand exposure with solvents, as this research shows:
www.valdezlink.com/solvent_studies.htm#story

I believe that is the case for a chiropractor practicing during the Exxon Valdez oil spill cleanup. He had melanoma eye cancer in 1992 & had an eye removed; now he has melanoma liver cancer. I wish that they would check for the blood damage that would accompany if 2-butoxyethanol poisoning is a contributing factor:
www.valdezlink.com/acute.htm

By the way, tumor of the brain and leukemia are concerns for children of those over exposed to 2-butoxyethanol per the World Health Organization. Are these on the increase? Check what work their parents did.

13- My mom passed away from Melanoma. She had it in her lungs, breast, brain, eye, and hip. Its a very scary thing to lose someone while there suffering. While your mom is getting treated just remember how much you love her and remember to say that you love her to her often, it will boost her happiness. My mom was in a coma for a day and she passed away two days after my 8th grade graduation. she dint get to see it, and i was so mad. because the last time i saw her was 4 days before. and i don't even remember if i said i love you to her when i left the hospital. i was just heart broken seeing her in so much pain.

Earlier when i was in 4th grade my mom got news that she had cancer in her neck. she got the spot removed. and it was all better. then this happened. the doctors said it was because of all the radiation she worked with (she worked in the local hospital). when my mom died i found out she had cancer before i was even born and it was behind her ear. no one ever told me until i read it in the local newspaper.
remember melissacan spend as much time with them as u can!  sarra15  8-13-04

14- im very sorry to hear your news.

15- i will say this , everyone on here is in my prayers, Wed night i lost my grandmother to mesastatic melanoma. 9 yrs ago she had a birth mark removed from her neck, they told her is was melanoma, she went to Vanderbilt , had the melanoma removed, took a fist sze out of her neck, anyways, she had the usual every month, to every 3 months, to every 6 months, then to yearly scans, In may she wasn't feeling well, i asked her what she wanted for Christmas last year, she said she already had it, her test was clean..from nov to may it started in her lungs, and lynph system , 3 wks time to her liver, ribs kidney, tumors rising on her legs, visiable under the skin, another 3 weeks, 2 chemo treatments, she was acting funny, she was put into the hospital, 8 brain tumors, she then had12radiation treatments18pills of TEMODAR, she fought all she could, she was a amazing woman, we need a cure for this, it's fast, deadly, and has no dignity......and it has taken the most beloved woman from me. so i know where you are and i know your hope, your let downs, your heartache...i have been there, and i hope to one day see that no one has to go through what she did......thank you for letting me share.... grannysgirl  9-24-04
16- On 11/13/04 my Mother was diagnosed with melanoma of the brain. They cannot find the primary source since we all know this type of cancer does not start in the brain. She was told months to a year for her prognosis. We did 15 radiation treatments and 24 tremador (chemo) pills. Bad news for us, our oncologist is our relative and said there is no cure, they can only try to manage this mean, ugly non-curable cancer. We spend every moment with my Mom now. She is a very strong 75 year young Mom of 6 and Grandma of 11. She blew thru her chemo and radiation with two symptoms, hair loss and a little tired. Today was her last radiation treatment, and we Christmas shopped for 6 hours after her treatment. We will not know if the cancer in her brain has shrunk for 6 weeks when they do a MRI. The ironic thing is that my Mother had a PETSCAN (tells if you have cancer active anywhere in your body) in July 2004 and was told "you are cancer free"! Four months later an emergency room doctor told her she had brain cancer. Her symptom was she could not calculate her numbers. Everyone be strong like my Mother, she refuses to give in - fight back with everything you have. I have done enormous amounts of research if anyone want to chat! lynnMchapman@insightbb.com  Lynn4004 12-22-04
17- i just wanted you to know as you see you are not alone. back in 2000 my daughter had a mole removed from her head. they said it was not cancer. she was blonde and blue eyes and lived in fla. we were elated with the news. 3 years later she had what they thought was a dead lymphnode and it turned out to be cancer. at this stage there was no cure ( stage 4 ) we went through 11 months of hell to no avail.. no experimental places would take her because of her age ( 15 ) no chemo worked... within that time she had tumors all over her body and no amount of surgery would help she was only 4'11" and weight in at 90 pounds. the one tumor they did not worry about was the one in her brain and that is the one that took her. hang in there someday they will have a handle on this monster.. that is what i am fighting for. more doctors need to be educated on this   bwalk1187   January 17, 2005
18 - I just wanted to share that there is a common cleaning and degreaser chemical, 2-butoxyethanol that is also an endocrine disruptor chemical, worse, in my opinion than DDT, that would cause these kinds of cancers AND many more besides.

Its identifying marker is the fatigue which is findable: autoimmune hemolytic anemia

Do you have some of these other things, too?

I have learned a great deal about this chemical because I have spent a lot of time looking into it. And its harm is much more widespread than I ever imagined.

Dear Maggie
