The third alternative is to take the bus. The bus line that serves our town is Pacifico. The buses are clean and the drivers very professional. They run from the Corona Bus Station every half hour. Still, you will need to take a taxi from the airport to the Bus Terminal. If your taxi driver asks where you are taking a bus to, be sure to tell him and don't be surprised if you get the best offer ever for a taxi trip all the way to La Peņita. At the bus terminal (I and others call it the Corona Terminal because of the new Corona distribution center nearby; I think it is more correctly called "Terminal Norte".) locate the Pacifico counter and tell the agent that you are going to La Peņita. In December of 2002, the fare was 62 pesos. Traveling north from this originating station, you will have an assigned seat. The Ticket Agent will point you to the door where you will find your bus lined up with the others on the platform. Once you are headed north from Puerto Vallarta, there is nothing to do but enjoy the scenery. There are no turns or complications. It is about a 45 minute or one hour trip. If occasionally you watch for a roadside kilometer post, you will be able to keep track of where you are. La Peņita is at kilometer 93. For now, the buses stop in La Peņita where the highway intersects with our main street: La Avenida. This is also the location of the towns lone traffic light. Sometime in the future, there are plans to use the new bus station that is north of town. |

So, here you are in La Peņita. You can hire a taxi to take you to Casa Libertad or you can walk if you do not have too much luggage. If you walk, put the highway to your back and walk along La Avenida towards the ocean. This boulevard is the busy and bustling business district. In about five blocks, the islands of the boulevard will stop. You are just two short blocks from the ocean, but take a left and go one block towards the town plaza. At the Plaza take a right and you will be walking along the north side of the plaza, once again towards the ocean. When you get to the north west corner, keep going on the pedestrian walkway, cross a small street and continue on the pedestrian walkway. You can see the ocean in front of you. As you near the end of the pedestrian walkway, the brick pillars with the pink ironwork fencing on your left is the north side of Casa Libertad. If she has not already spotted you, hail: "Hola, Gloria!" and continue around to the front, ocean side of the house. ĄBienvenidos al Casa Libertad! |
