When we travel all night and half a day from Alaska to our home in La Peņita, we are usually tired, hungry and thirsty. After a quick dip in the ocean, we head for "Hinde y Jaime's". (see number 27 on Jared's map of La Peņita) This is the local expat hangout. We order big platters of shrimp tacos and fish tacos. They are the best I have ever had. I wash mine down with an icy Indio or maybe two and Bruce orders a Margarita. This is the only place in La Peņita to get a Margarita. It is a big, friendly place with a pool table, tv area, leave-one-take-one library, etc. The prices could not be more reasonable. Mexican specialties as well as meat/potatoes & gravy meals. Live music some nights.
Tom Plattenberger: Alaska! La Peņita!! The World!!!
"La Avenida" restaurant is in La Peņita on (where else?) La Avenida! What distinguishes it from the other average Mexican restaurants is hard to say. The staff is friendly and patient with non-Spanish speakers. But this could be said for most restaurants in our area. We are there almost every morning for breakfast, especially when we have house guests. The restaurant is elevated a few steps higher than the sidewalk and this offers a good vantage point to watch the action on the street outside. It is perhaps just a bit more open and airy than the others. It also does not hurt that the women are beautiful and the men are very handsome in this family run business. Bruce says they grill the best Huachinago. Budget level prices. (number 26 on Jared's map of La Peņita)

When asked to recomend a restaurant, Solis (Danielle) comes immediately to mind. They offer delicious Mediterran food. The service is impecciable, the wine delicious and the food remarkable AND all very reasonable. Solis is located right on the main plaza in La Peņita. Delightful people who offer a true dining experience.
Lin Chimes of Los Ayala
My other favourite is Esmeralda's (Victor's) in the Buena Vida Hotel in Rincon de Guayabitos. Excellent Arranchara (sic) and other delights with an excellent wine selection. Victor's beef is from Sonora and is very tender for those meat lovers out there. Esmeralda's has waterfront dining.

Our favorite place to eat in Rincon de Guayabitos is at Mi Casa es Su Casa Bed and Breakfast. Vicki and Bob serve up fresh, healthy and plentiful breakfast specialties tailored to their guests' dietary needs. The menu varies daily. Our favorites include Omelettes Camarones and Chicken Mole served with freshly prepared juices and side dishes. Our list could go on and on because it all tastes so delicious!! (See number 47 on Jared's map of Rincon de Guayabitos.)
Lenore and Dave Boroughs Vancouver, WA
We have found the Restaurant Pina Colada owned by Esteban and Mina Valdivia, to be very consistent, serving well prepared good fresh food. (On the frontage road that runs along the west side of the highway in Rincon de Guayabitos.) They are very carefull in food preparation. Nick says they have the best hamburger and the very best fries he ever tasted. Their mixology is very professional. We love the Fajitas and the seafood is absolutely excellent. Esteban and Mina and family are very accomodating and it is a great fun place to go if you have a crowd.
Vivian and Nick Munroe, Villas Estero del Mar in La Peņita
In Rincon de Guayabitos, one of the northern-most, palapa-style restaurants on the beach is "M & J's". Mattea and Jesse are a great young couple who just about everyone really likes. The tables out in the sand are popular with the local expats. When walking the beach, watch for their sandwich board out front. It will say M&J at the top and list their specials. If you like ribs, you will love this place. Ice-cold beer and warm people. (Tom)
Lise and Petra have opened the Bavarian Gardens restaurant on the east side of the highway at Rincon de Guayabitos. Immediately, they and their establishment were the talk of the whole Jaltemba Bay. We just tried it for the first time on our recent visit. The attention and accolades they are getting are well deserved. This is high quality and authentic food. The cured meats are hand crafted in Bucerias, the spatzels and schnitzels and strudels are homemade, among the delights in the bread basket you will find real pumpernickel. They are open by about 3pm for dinner and open for breakfast on Saturday and Sundays. Linen napkins! Unreal! We love this place!
