Church Council notes
Our church committees are looking at the 2010 budget and preparing for our
Annual Meeting in January. Your feedback
is welcome! Where can we save? Where must we grow? As these committees brainstorm, plan, propose
and predict, your support is requested in the planning process. Please consider returning your completed
Intent card from your Messenger newsletter.
Central members are receiving a
mailing from the Personnel committee asking each adult and older youth (12+) to
assess our Pastors by this

YOUTH
Thank
you to all those donating to or attending the Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser organized
by the Drop In Center youth for their mission trip to
Thank
you to Ethan Neslund for playing and singing
at Sandra’s ordination service. Many
great comments have popped up on Facebook about the
service, the Sonray’s sermon, and the “ELCA” song in
particular.
Children
in Sunday School are going to be learning their parts
and songs for the Christmas pageant soon. Parents, we'd love your help in practicing at
home. Your child will bring you a letter
with the lyrics he or she is trying to learn and some simple costume
needs. Special thanks to those who have
volunteered - thanks for your patience, and we'll be in touch by email with
specific needs soon. One talent that we
are now searching for is face-painting expertise. Our big dress rehearsal will be 10 am - 12
noon Saturday December 19th. Pizza will
be served following rehearsal. The
Pageant itself will be at 9:30 am on Sunday December 20th, as a part of our
worship service. Any
questions? Contact Inger Hanson at 227-2009 or
Amanda Lofgren at 245-2435.
High School
Youth Group meets most Mondays at 7
pm. Not yet on our email list? CentralLutheranYouth@hotmail.com.
CHURCH NEWS YOU CAN USE
Donations needed for Alaska Children's Services: The
Spiritual Life program at ACS asks for donations for "welcome
baskets" for new kids coming into their residential treatment program.
Items wanted include: water bottles, Nerf Hoops (for over the door),
Fold-A-Note stationery, sock monkeys, body wash, small non-spiral notebooks,
and fleece blankets. Donations can be brought to Central Lutheran. Please talk
to Pastor Lisa or Karen Voris if you have questions.
First Communion Classes: Is your child
ready to receive communion? Or already receiving but would like more
instruction? The pastors will lead first communion classes for interested
students are parents at 4 pm on Wednesdays 12/2 and 12/9. Ages 5 and over are
typical but any child is welcome if parents are interested. A good indication
your child is ready is when he/she starts asking about communion! Please
contact the church office or pastors for more information.
The next Book Group meeting will be on Monday, December 14th at 7:00pm at
Central. We will be discussing Have a
Little Faith by Mitch Albom. "Have a Little Faith is a book
about a life's purpose; about losing belief and finding it again; about the
divine spark inside us all. It is one man's journey, but it is everyone's
story." -Amazon.com. Come and join
us for fellowship and discussion.
Young
Adults: TPC stands for Theology Pub Club.
Consider yourself invited.
What is it?
We're not sure yet. We hope you tell us. TPC was born out of conversations
among young adults at Central and Amazing Grace Lutheran. We wish there was a
place young adults would feel comfortable going to talk about faith/life/the
world. So young adults (loosely defined) will gather on first
and third Thursdays (11/19), 8 pm, at Spenard
Roadhouse, on Northern Lights. What? You haven't been there? It's
fantastic. Good food and drinks, if you like.
We'll gather for an hour or so for informal conversation. No
presentation, no dogma, no sermons. Just conversation, some
silly, some serious.
