Fisheries in the False Pass Area:
The location of False Pass in relation to world-class commercial fishing grounds is probably unique in the entire world. The largest bio-mass of groundfish (Pollock & other deep water species) in the world lie just to the north of us in the Bering Sea and to the south of us in the Gulf of Alaska. In addition to the abundance of groundfish, the area is well supplied with Halibut, Cod, Crab and, of course, world-class wild Salmon.
This website cover each species of fish in some detail and shows how the location of False Pass is in a particularly favorable location for their use. The map below graphically shows the major fishery zones in our area.
