It is the true story of Maggie the elephant, living at the zoo. Should an elephant be here in Alaska’s cold climate? She became the source of much caring and concern.		Two Bears There The Story of Ahpun and Oreo Two Bears There is about a polar bear and a brown bear, Ahpun and Oreo, orphaned as cubs in the Alaskan bush and raised together as zoo playmates for five years. Published in 2003, this book won a satewide award for children's non-fiction and is now in its second printing. DETAILS	Mukluks for Annabelle Dianne's first book for the zoo was published in 1999 and featured the Alaska Zoo's first resident, Annabelle the elephant brought to the zoo as a baby. Based on a true story, this book is now in its second printing and won a national first-place award for children's non-fiction in 2000. DETAILS

	Dianne Barske, artist and author, has lived in Alaska for 35 years. She has written and illustrated award-winning books about animals at the Alaska Zoo. She is also the author of a biography of Alaska cultural pioneer, Lorene Harrison, a book titled “Mostly Music.” Dianne teaches art to children and finds that a great adventure. The American Diabetes Association has chosen her work four times in a national Holiday Art Search competition for its annual holiday cards. She is the mother of three and grandmother of two. She is also an admirer of animals, with a house full of three dogs, a cat, and a turtle. So focusing her talents on the Alaska Zoo came naturally.
