Alaska Zoo Books

ALASKA ZOO BOOKS -- A series of books for children telling stories about animals at the Alaska Zoo, written and illustrated by Dianne Barske

Mukluks for Annabelle

Mukluks for Annabelle

Dianne's first book for the zoo was published in 1999 and featured the Alaska Zoo's first resident, Annabelle the elephant. Mukluks for Annabelle is based on a true story of Annabelle, brought to the zoo as a baby, and how she faced adapting to the Alaskan environment. She truly had cold feet! An elephant in Alaska is certainly out-of-place, but it was Alaskan ingenuity and caring that eventually solved a little elephant's dilemma.

This book is now in its second printing and won on a national first-place award for children's non-fiction in 2000.
