WHAT DOES A SHOCK COLLAR TEACH MY DOG?

A recent study compared the reactions of dogs receiving shocks during training with those undergoing training but not receiving shocks.  Postures and behaviors (such as low ear position, licking lips, shaking, snapping, yelping and urinating) demonstrated substantially increased stress in dogs receiving shocks.  These dogs also related the presence of the handler or his commands with shock reception, even outside of training sessions.  The researchers concluded that the anticipation of shocks by the dogs affected the human-dog relationship and adversely affected the dogs’ well-being
