Kougarok Road

A panoramic view of the Kigluaik Mountains

Also known as the Nome-Taylor Highway, this road extends more than 80 miles into the wilderness north of Nome.  The road was built to replace railroad tracks during the gold rush era.

The Kuzitrin River bridge north of Nome. The structure was originally built in 1917 to span the Chena River at Fairbanks' Cushman Street. When Fairbanks replaced it with a multi-lane span, it was dissembled and moved here.
