CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINE LIST OF ABBREVIATIONS

New York Report

FEAT of Alaska, inc. is for EFFECTIVE treatment of autism. The most useful tool to date for assisting families in evaluating treatment options is "The Guideline Technical Report: Autism/ Pervasive Developmental Disorders" from the New York State Department of Health, Early Intervention Program.  This is a must read for every parent PRIOR to making treatment decisions.

A grant from the U. S.  Department of Education, funded a multi-year effort by the New York State Department of Health to develop clinical practice guidelines. This resulted in the most thorough, scientific review of all treatment options to date.

This guideline was developed by an independent panel of professionals and parents sponsored by the New York State Department of Health, Early Intervention Program.  The US Government has issued Mental Health: A Report by the Surgeon General, validating the research supporting ABA as the leading treatment for autism. The report concludes that "thirty years of research demonstrated the efficacy of applied behavioral methods in reducing inappropriate behavior and in increasing communication, learning, and appropriate social behavior."

The New York State Department of Health has issued Clinical Practice Guidelines, Report of \ the Recommendations on Autism / PDD. The report recommends "a minimum (emphasis in original) of approximately twenty hours per week of individualized behavioral intervention using ABA techniques."
