Equipped with a Masters Degree from Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies Kate Troll set off in 1977 to begin her professional career in Alaska. Hired by Bristol Bay Native Association, Kate was the first person to introduce Coastal Zone Management to “Bush Alaska”. After working for the local planning department in Ketchikan, she was elected to local office. In the 1980’s and 90’s she represented commercial fishing in the tumultuous world of ‘fish politics’ both in Alaska and at a national level. She was appointed to the first State Board of Forestry, has taught at the University of Alaska Southeast and held several resource policy positions with the State of Alaska. At the world conference of the International Society of Ecological Economics, Kate presented on paper on ‘Eco-nomics’.
Her outdoor pursuits parallel her intense professional journey. She has climbed Denali, paddled through the Gates of the Arctic, experienced whales diving under her kayak and skied through the Great Gorge of the Alaska Range. Alaska, the land of large wilderness and ice, comes through as Kate's source of inspiration and vision.
