From
Pastor Randy
David Buffaloe tells the following story: “Christopher Wren was an
architect who lived in Of the three men, only the lowly sweeper saw the big picture and understood he was contributing to something greater. We are a part of the church which is a fulfillment of the prophecy of Jesus when He said, "I will build My church." In the book of Revelation, Jesus says to each of the 7 churches that He knows what is going on in each of them. Jesus knows what is going on in our church. You have heard me say several times that the church is the body of Christ. The way you treat the church is the way you treat Christ. Whatever your gift is, I hope
that as you use it this year at Growing Discipleship Bonding Fellowship Caring Witness.
Stuck in My Head by
Dan Shilling
Do you wake up with a song stuck in your head, sing it in the shower, carry it with you all day long, and sing it to sleep at night? I do. Sometimes I switch songs in the day depending on what I am doing, but often it is the same song all day long. “Down to the River to Pray” has been there for a month. Usually the congregation gets to experience the new songs
the choir sings for three to five minutes, but never has the chance to make
it a part of their morning, noon and night repertoire. The choir, on the other hand, takes a piece
of new music from infancy (sight reading) to maturity (performance) over a
period of several weeks or even longer.
It becomes a part of them. I
know they carry their favorites with them for months and even years. A few weeks ago I had to smile at my
Dad. He started absent-mindedly
singing a phrase from a song he had sung in my choir over 20 years ago, and he sang it pretty accurately. What a great way to hide God’s Word, truths
and promises in your heart. Here’s yet
another reason to join choir. Now would be a good time to start as we begin
rehearsals for our Easter musical, “The Risen Christ.”
Personal Revival by Michael Blakeney
What happens after God begins to make us aware of our need for revival is the next important step in experiencing personal revival. How we respond to God reveals what we believe about God. Pride is the ugly figure that steps between our hearts and our minds and prevents us from connecting what we know deep within us to our actions. God calls us to be humble. The Bible tells us that, “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” (Luke 14:11). When we are confronted with the sin in our lives, we must believe that it is wrong. Justifying our sin or rationalizing our sin prevents us from seeing what sin really is. God reveals the sin in our lives, and we must see sin as offensive and horrible. Here is where we experience part of the beauty of Christ's sacrifice on the cross. Despite our rebel hearts, Christ died for us and offers to us the glorious gift of salvation. Even better, we can experience His love and grace everyday through sanctification, and when we die we will be with Him and the Father in a reality empty of sin. This adventure hinges on how we respond to God revealing the condition of our heart. Why would any Christian want to put off humbling themselves before the Lord? Maybe it's fear of what might be on the other-side, or maybe it's because we lose control. Possibly, our life has become so connected with a sin that we can't imagine our life without it. We must trust in God to guide us and allow Him to fill the emptiness in our lives. Jonathan Edwards said, “A truly humble man is sensible of his natural distance from God; of His dependence on Him; of the insufficiency of his own power and wisdom.” We must humble ourselves before God and realize our need and dependence for Him everyday.
