Underlay

Underlay

Our entry is 4' x 11', and includes a coat closet along one side. The front door and another to the garage open into the area. Opposite the front door is a step down into a hallway, as well as a turn up stairs to the second floor.

I glued and screwed ¼ plywood over the existing vinyl floor to create a suitable underlay for the new tile. The screws are placed in a 6" x 6" pattern to ensure the underlay doesn't loosen over time.

In this view, base board molding, the garage door, and the closet door have been removed to ease installation of the tile.

Next: The border tiles are installed.
