The utility platform in our garage was built directly on a dirt floor. Then the concrete slab was poured around the utility platform structure. Over time, the platform began sinking into the dirt, and the drywall on the sides suffered from exposure to water on the floor.
This photo shows a new concrete footing that will support the platform. The heating system's sheetmetal forced-air plenum is visible to the right of the platform.
The footing is tied to the slab with several large bolts.
