Rain Drain

Trench

With new gutters on both sides of the house, the downspouts posed the problem of directing a large amount of water into the ground right next to our foundation. We initially considered a splash block that would take the water a foot or two away from the house, but decided that distance would be insufficient.

Our solution was to install a rain drain system. In this photo, the rain gutter downspout is visible against the house. Directly below it is a 20" deep trench that extends 10' from the house, turns 45°, then extends another 12'.

The next step is to install the drain pipe and gravel.
