Meet Miss Preteen American Achievement 2000, Alaska's own Courtney Davison!!

MISS PRETEEN ALASKA, Courtney Davison is an A student and in her fifth year in a Japanese Immersion Program, where she is taught and tested in Japanese. She is a class mediator, in school choir and is a Girl Scout. Courtney is a downhill ski racer and plays competitive soccer. She studies piano, tap dance, and voice weekly. She also has taken beginning and advanced acting and musical theater classes. Courtney has been in numerous school and local community theatre productions. She has won many state talent and speech competitions. Courtney won a good medal in spokesmodel and a silver medal in vocal at the 1999 World Championships of Performing Arts. She has co-founded two youth community service organizations and has donated numerous hours to her community. Courtney won the 1999 Miss American Achievement National Leadership Award and the ZOOM Cum Laude Award from the National TV Childrens' Show ZOOM.

Meet Ms. American Achievement 2000, Alaska's own Merrilee McDonald!!

MS. ALASKA, Merrilee McDonald is a native of Anchorage, Alaska. She graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. degree in English, and is currently working toward her Masters of Science in Computer Systems. She has just returned to Washington after six years of working in Colorado, Alaska, and Siberia. In Alaska she trained airline personnel on Boeing 737 emergency equipment and traveled to every town from Barrow to King Salmon. In Siberia, she lived in a remote gold mine camp for seven months while working on a database and training computer operators. She is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), and currently works for a leading software company. Merrilee is a member of Mensa, the International High-IQ Society, the Association of Internet Professionals, and the Society for Technical Communication. She volunteers her time as a career mentor, participates in walking and running fundraising events, and was a volunteer reporter for Alaska Public Radio. Her favorite sports are any that combine adventure with wide open spaces, such as hiking and skiing.

MISS ALASKA, Levada Jo Johnson was born in Juneau, Alaska. Levada's rich cultural heritage of Tlingit, Cherokee, Irish and German is a source of great pride for her. "Learning traditional Tlingit ceremonies from my father and elders give me a deeper understanding about myself and my ancestors." This ambitious young lady plans to seek a college degree in business and to further her education at the Master's level. Levada is currently employed as a cashier at two businesses and is diligently saving her pennies to pay her own way through college. Levada says, "I do not find it an easy task, but I am determined to better my mind and my prospects for the future. Education is very important to me and very enjoyable." In her spare time, she enjoys taking photos in around the beautiful city of Juneau. "Juneau holds so much beauty. I can never tire of it," states Levada. Her favorite activities include: biking, fishing, and basketball.

Kaylen is a high school junior, and was Miss Alaska Teen Amercian Achievement in 1998. An accomplished athlete, Kaylen is a soccer champion, as well as a speed skating champion. Kaylen has volunteered over 1,600 hours to an adult literacy program here in Alaska. She has also done numerous other volunteer projects, including founding "Friends of Francis", a group which collects food and clothing for the Brother Francis Shelter and St. Francis House. Kaylen is an A student, a cheerleader, and Miss Alaska American Teen Coed for 1999.



Jasmyne was a Top 6 Finalist for the National Miss American Achievement title in 1999. She is the founder of "Kids That Care", a volunteer organization made up of young people dedicated to doing community service projects all year. "Kids That Care" has held several collection drives for such worthy causes as McAuley Manor, Mother Lawrence Foundation, and the Anchorage Youth Station. Jasmyne, a sophomore at the University of Alaska Anchorage, was Miss Alaska American Coed for 1999.



Courtney was 2nd runner-up to the National title of Miss Pre-Teen American Achievement, and also a recipient of the National Leadership Recognition Award. An A student in a Japanese Immersion Program, Courtney is also a co-founder of "Kids That Care", and another volunteer organization, "Labors of Love". Courtney is a Girl Scout, plays soccer, and is a downhill ski racer. She also loves to sing, dance and perform. Courtney has won numerous prizes at talent shows and pageants for Speech as well as her acting and singing abilities. Courtney is the reigning National Miss American Achievement Preteen Queen for the year 2000.



Lacey has finished high school and is working as an Assistant Manager at a local store. One of the founders of "Labors of Love", Lacey is also a member of "Kids That Care". She has done volunteer work with many organizations in her hometown, including the Pregnancy Crisis Center. Lacey is a veteran of the entertainment world, and has modeled and acted for many years. The winners of several Speech and Acting awards, Lacey loves to entertain. She is also Miss Pacific Northwest Worldwide Achievement 2000.
