50 of 50

The last fund raising emphasis for the Family Life Center (FLC) is beginning, and we need each of you to be a part of it.  The kitchen is all that is lacking to finish the FLC.  Approximately $50,000 is needed to do this.  Here’s the plan. On April 18th, at the Sunday morning service we will be asking for 50 commitments of $1,000 each.  That Sunday will be the 9th anniversary of our groundbreaking ceremony for the FLC.

A “commitment” can take on many different forms, and completed over a 6 month period.  The forms of a commitment may be an individual, a family, a Sunday School class, a youth group, an adult group, or others you can think of.  A group effort could entail holding fund raisers such as garage sales, bake sales, dinners, etc.  You could be involved in one or more of these commitments, such as making an individual commitment and also helping your Sunday school class with a commitment.  You are not limited to one commitment, please pray about what God would have you do and then commit to do it.

You will have 6 months to fulfill your commitment.  That date will be October 18th.   A number of the commitments will be needed up front so we can begin to contract to finish the work, but it will take several months to complete the work, so we be able to fulfill a number of commitments over the 6 month period.

From the few fellowships we have had to date in the FLC it has become real apparent what a blessing and benefit it would be to have the kitchen finished for future fellowship events.  It would save a large amount of work, which would result in more fellowships being held, which would help us reach our community for Jesus.
However, we need your help to reach the 50 commitments on April 18.  We can do it with God’s help.  Come prepared to be a part of this effort.  If you cannot be present on April 18th, please mail in your check or commitment prior to April 18th so we can count it that day.

News From Your Design/Construction Committee September 2009

April  17, 2009 – a red letter day for our church.  That is the day we received our Temporary Certificate of Occupancy for our Family Life Center (FLC). This meant we could start using the FLC, and the first event we held was the “end of the year” party for our AWANA clubbers.  Since then Sunday School classes have been meeting there, and our vacation Bible school made effective use of the space. When Valley Baptist Academy opens this year it will have an indoor facility available for indoor recreation and school functions.

However, we want to emphasize the word “temporary” in our certificate of occupancy permit to use the FLC.  This means our building is not complete.  The major job yet to complete is the kitchen.  It is estimated that this will take $50,000 to complete and furnish.  We currently have a balance in our building fund of around $4,000.

PFD Season” is here again.  This is a time when all the residents of Alaska share in the bountiful oil riches our Creator endowed Alaska with.  We know there are many worthy uses for the money we receive in our “PFD” checks, and we would urge you not to forget making a contribution towards completing our FLC.  Pulling together, we will be able to finish the FLC in short order.  You all have been so faithful in your giving to this project, as evidenced by what has been accomplished to date.  Please give this your prayerful consideration as you  consider how to invest your PFD this year.  What better investment is there, than one made in the Lord’s work.

May God bless your faithfulness, The D/C Committee
