Worship
team. The
worship team leader is Tim Mearig. The team normally consists
of 3 to 4 singers and several instrumentalists, and practices
on Saturday mornings at 9:15 a.m.
Special
music.
A music schedule is
posted on the bulletin board by the office. People
should look at the schedule
routinely. The music committee always wants to know about
people who can sing or play instruments for special numbers.
If any member of the congregation wants to sing solos, or sing
in small groups, or play an instrument, please contact one of
the music committee members.
Choir.
GVBC has a part-time
choir,
which is open to all. If anyone is interested in joining the
choir, please contact our director, Sharon Hatch (message
phone 789-0329). Depending upon the members and the director,
the choir may be year-round, or it may be active for special
occasions. The choir is faithful to present special music on
Christmas, Easter and other occasions. The choir has presented Christmas music
at the annual open house at the Governor's mansion. For
more information, go to "musicals"
on this page.
Singspirations.
Four times a year, on months with 5 Sundays, GVBC has a combined worship service
with the two other Baptist churches, First Baptist and Emmanuel
Baptist. These services are usually entirely music,
congregational and special music. They include other special
ministries, such as puppets, drama, poetry reading, etc. These
are open for all to participate, on a sign-up basis.
Musicals
and Cantatas.
The
choir is committed to offer special musicals at Christmas and
Easter.
Children and
Music.
We
encourage involvement of children, to receive God’s blessing
through their ministries and also to encourage development of
their God-given talents. The music committee is committed to
make every effort to help children reach higher skills in
singing, instruments, etc. Children can be encouraged through
involvement in church music, as well as individual coaching
and examples set by various church musicians. Children’s
participation is desired in special music for services,
especially evening Sunday services and 5th Sunday
Singspirations.

The
Messengers.
GVBC,
as a church committed to missions, has a musical group
called the "Messengers" which travels to other
communities to present the gospel and the joy of the Lord in
song and testimonies. |
GVBC
musicians, especially people who participate in the music
program such as the choir, worship team, etc., are welcome
to audition for the Messengers. The group is small (6),
and members may be rotated in and out of the group to provide
opportunities for all to participate. The abilities
necessary are such things as being able to read music,
independently maintain a part, have a pleasant vocal tone,
travel, etc. The group has provided Christmas music
for the annual open house at the Governor’s Mansion. The
group desires to perform for other churches and community
functions in Juneau, as well. If anybody knows of a
southeast Alaska community, no matter how small, who is
hungry for the touch of God, please let us know!
