Healthcare Considerations
Instructors:
Freda Rogers, CMA, CPC, received the
American Association of Medical Assistants healthcare credential of Certified
Medical Assistant in 1988. The American Academy of Professional Coders
credential of Certified Professional Coder was earned by Freda in October
2003. She has experience as administrator of an urgent care
clinic, office
manager for an independent medical laboratory and a pediatric practice.
She was clinical and administrative medical assistant for a
three-physician Tacoma oncology practice. Freda is a founding member of the Mendenhall
Chapter Medical Assistants (a local organization chartered in 1991 to provide continuing
education for healthcare professionals), an affiliate of the American
Association of Medical Assistants. Freda has been the featured speaker for various
continuing healthcare education programs, and has taught workshops on Medical
Terminology, Managed Care Survival In The Medical Office and Current Procedural Terminology Coding.
Freda is the president of the Alaska
Medical Assistant Society until April of 2004.
Freda has three adult children, five of the most wonderful grandchildren in
the world, a magic dog and two cats. She first arrived in Fairbanks with
her family in February of 1996. The temperature on her first day in Alaska was
-60 degrees...

Jo L. Dahl, MAT, has been an educator since 1974. She has taught such
diverse subjects as creative movement, high school English, debate, college
courses in public speaking, training of trainers, family communications, project
management, and stress reduction. She earned her BA in English, Speech and
Theater from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, a Masters in Teaching from the
University of Alaska Southeast, and a Masters in Communication from Western
Washington University. Ms. Dahl has experience working in medical offices
and for a major health insurance company.
She
is a founding member of The Cancer Connection, a
non-profit organization created to provide support, education, awareness and
resources to cancer survivors and their families.
Jo, originally from Texas, has been an Alaska resident for 25 years. Jo
volunteers her time in the community as a reading tutor with K-2 students,
working with Girl Scouts, and school performances. She is married with one
extremely intelligent, witty, delightfully beautiful child.
