I thought of this because that was one problem we had in Georgia before the flood. Our rows were high rows and they kept drying out not to mention they were just too hot. We should've just made regular rows but we didn't.
The rest I understand should grow fairly well. I'm planning on growing summer squash, peas, onions, carrots, lettuce, cucumbers, broccoli, and zucchini. Hmmm. I just realized I don't have any brussels sprouts. I'll have to get some of those.
I'm planting from seed. If I purchase plants themselves then I'm one step closer to the grocery counter and what fun is that? I'm using a plain 'ol flourescent light to start my seeds. I'm not going to start them outdoors because the growing season is so short.
One mistake I made (again in Georgia) is I didn't acclimate the plants well enough when we transplanted them. I did well with my container tomatoes on that.
I'm not going to go through the trouble to make a cold frame, nor a green house. If push comes to shove there's always good 'ol plastic should a late frost come on suddenly.
That's the basic plan. Would you like to see my planting schedule?
