HOPE,
ALASKA
Every trip to South Central
Alaska must include a visit to the historic town of Hope on the North Shore
of the Kenai Peninsula. Located 85 miles from Anchorage on Turnagain Arm,
Hope was Alaska's first gold mining town established in the 1890's. Many
of the town's original structures still remain within their wild mountainous
and coastal setting. Hope is also known for its many adventurous outdoor
activities. Visitors enjoy hiking and mountain biking along the Resurrection
and Gull Rock Trails, white water rafting, fishing for salmon and trout,
and panning for gold.
Stop
By the Seaview!
The Seaview
is located at the very end of historic Main Street where the mouth of Resurrection
Creek meets the Turnagain Arm. Its location offers uninterrupted, spectacular
views of Turnagain Arm and the Chugach and Kenai Mountains. It's
a great place to visit if you are looking for a remote Alaskan vacation
spot with an abundance of wildlife and Alaskan history.
The
Seaview Cafe and Bar
Serving the public since
1896. We are open everyday from May through September noon to midnight.
The charming, turn of the century Cafe serves delicious homemade specialties
for lunch and dinner. A large outdoor sun deck, with sweeping views of
the Kenai Mountains, adjoins the Seaview Bar to the Cafe. Enjoy a cold
Alaskan beer or glass of wine among the gold rush antiques, old photographs,
and local color. Listen to live music under the midnight sun on the weekends.
The facilities are available for banquets, weddings, and private parties.
The
Seaview Cabins
Located along historic
Main Street, these cozy, rustic, and inexpensive cabins sleep 3 or 4 people
comfortably, and some have kitchen facilities. Call or e-mail
ahead for reservations.
The
Seaview Shop
Open daily from 8 AM to
8 PM and is located in the Cafe which once served as Hope's General Store.
It offers coffee and homemade pastries, sundries, fine Alaskan gifts, books,
fishing supplies, tourist information and Alaskan hospitality.
The
Seaview RV Park and Campground
Situated at the end of
the road between Resurrection Creek and the shores of Turnagain Arm. All
RV sights have sweeping views of the inlet and the Chugach and Kenai Mountains.
They are available with or without electrical hookup. Fishing and gold
panning are accessible within a few feet of where you camp. |
