Today's Random Thought

When you go in for a job interview, I think a good thing to ask is if they ever press charges.

I will have processor information on the Killer Gaming Rig #13 giveaway for you soon. I am almost positive it will be an 939 pin 3200+ Athlon64. I may also get confirmation on the motherboard for you as well. We are hoping our ASUS A8N-SLi Deluxe pans out. I have everything else in house besides a decent monitor. If you have information on where I can get a big ol' LCD for the KGR, let me know...I only have two weeks left.

Well, the results are in and with over a thousand people saying YES and only 5 people saying NO, we will do a donation drive to help the victims of the tsunamis. I have found a way to make everyone happy by keeping the KGR #13 a complete free giveaway and do a separate system for the donation drive. I have selected Direct Relief International because of their policy:

Direct Relief has never used a specific tragedy as a general fundraising opportunity. We will not do so in this instance. We consider the funds that contributed specifically for this disaster to be entrusted to us for the benefit of people whose lives have been tragically affected. The people who have called us, many grieving and emotional about the tragedy, have made it clear that they want their money to assist these victims – not others in other places that we assist who also face extraordinary challenges and are vulnerable. We understand this, and we will honor that intent.

I will open the donation drive AND the Killer Gaming Rig #13 later today. Since all of our contest links are still broken, send your KGR #13 entries HERE

One school of thought is that we can turn the Killer Gaming Rig #13 into a donation drive since I have the KGR #13 almost ready to roll now. Are you for it? Against it? Please feel free to let me know (steve@hypothermia.us / steve@hardocp.com).

12.28.04:  -Steve
Since this whole tsunami thing hit I have been inundated with requests to do a charity benefit for the victims and do a donation from Hypothermia as a whole. The problem is we have just wrapped up a series of donation drives, Christmas is barely over with and I just don't know if it is the right thing to do to do a donation drive if we (you) can't get behind it 100%. As always, if it is something you guys want, I can come up with computers and PC hardware to do it, but I don't want to take advantage of your good will.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

12.19.04:  -Steve
No real news on the server issues, but I can guarantee that the new year will bring you a TON of new giveaways and a brand new Killer Gaming Rig. Hang tight.

12.14.04:  -Steve
We are still having server problems, mainly with Front Page extensions which breaks the contest submission pages. I have two really good giveaways ready to roll but I need to get the server issues out of the way first. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience. The reason you never saw anything like this before is simple, working out issues 5 years ago when [H]ardOCP and Hypothermia just started out was much easier. Today it requires crapload of servers, a ton bandwidth and a full time person to run the whole operation. So have faith, we are working on getting everything hammered out, it is just taking longer than expected.

Congrats to everyone for making our efforts to aid Child's Play a huge success. All together we raised $10,000 in only four days...if that isn't amazing, I don't know what is.

12.06.04:  -Steve
I want to thank everyone who participated in helping us raise a total of $10,000.00 for the Child's Play charity drive this year. I am extremely proud of the fact that our three charity drives were a huge success all thanks to you but most of all, there are a lot of sick children who will be spending the holidays in the hospital who thank you. Just remember, there is still 19 days left to Christmas, if you weren't able to participate in one of our donation drives, you can still go to the
Child's Play website and buy a gift of make a donation.

12.05.04:  -Steve
We will have our Child's Play gift certificate winners posted soon, keep checking the link below to see if you are one of the lucky winners.

MORE Child's Play:  -Steve
As of today, Penny Arcade's Child's Play charity is close to breaking the $150K mark for cash donations, but with only 26 days left until X-Mas, they need all the help they can get to make it happen. To do this, we are going to hand out TWO (2) $1,000 gift certificates randomly to those who donate to the cause. MY GOAL is to help PA break the $150K mark, I know we can do it, every little bit helps so let's do this!! Click the link above to donate!

11.28.04:  -Steve
O.K. I have almost all the details hammered out. I want to have things rolling by this weekend and give you guys the opportunity to make one final push before Christmas, and I will give out TWO, count them TWO $1,000 gift certificates at random to two of the people who donate (one for Best Buy one for CompUSA). Check back here soon!!!

11.24.04:  -Steve
We are less than one month away from Christmas and the Penny Arcade Child's Play Charity drive is inching closer to that magic $100k mark in cash donations. I want to make sure we put Child's Play over the top this year so I am hammering out the deal right now for $2,000.00 in Gift Certificates from CompUSA and Best Buy to raise more money for the cause. Keep your eyes peeled here, this is an amazing cause and they are sooooo close to hitting the $100k mark, I know Hypothermia can help put them over the top.

Server Issues:  -Steve
Our server issues are taking longer than anticipated. I sincerely appreciate your patience, we will hopefully have things worked out in the very near future. The good news is, this is the first time in 5 years we have had any downtime like this, so we won't be due again for another 5 years!

10.27.04:  -Steve
We still have server issues, once we get everything hammered out and back to normal we will post our interview with the Frag Dolls. In the mean time...or should I say down time, I am getting contest stuff together for a bunch of cool stiff for the holidays.

As most of you know I had my final back operation (I hope) and things should be back to normal...heh..I said "back" to normal! Right now my schedule is grueling, I get up a 2:30am every day for my normal job at HardOCP so I can have news posted for the morning news crowd (6am CST). I post news for 12 - 14 hours a day. I write my review content for the [H] and gather the content prizes and such between news posting. After that I go straight to physical rehab 5 days a week for two and a half hours a day. By the time I get home I have enough time to get 3 - 4 hours of sleep and start the whole process over again. If I haven't gotten to everyone e-mail, please bear with me...I promise to get to everyone!

Oh yeah, for those of you not up to date on my back injury, I was hurt a few years ago and this is what happened to my back

Hypothermia Updates:  -Steve
Most of you have noticed server issues with [H]ard|OCP lately and wondering why Hypothermia hasn't been updated in almost four weeks. Well, it is because we had to move Hypothermia to different servers and I currently cannot access my site yet to update it. We had a hacker compromise our security last month so we moved ahead with hardware updates we already had planned....just sooner than we wanted. The accelerated schedule has thrown us off a bit while we prioritize what needs to be fixed first. Everything will be fixed soon, it just takes time to get it all fixed.

So that is it, that is why Hypothermia hasn't been updated. We will have everything back to normal soon, in the mean time, I have this temporary page set up to keep you up to date. All the links on this page take you back to Hypothermia, so feel free to browse as you normally would.
