FAQs
Is my membership
deductible? The Island Institute is registered with the United States Internal Revenue
Service as non-profit organization. If you need our non-profit identifying
details, we'll be glad to provide them.
What about
matching funds? If you work for a company that participates in your community by matching
donations you give, these additional funds could help us tremendously.
Are there other
ways I can contribute? You can donate artwork, other products, or services to our annual spring
fundraising auction. Those donations are tax deductible to the extent
allowed by law.
Should I specify
how my membership should be spent? You can if you'd like. We're happy to put your contribution toward any
aspect of our work you'd like to support. We're also pleased to receive
donations for general operations.
What kind of people participate in our programs?
Writers, teachers, social workers, doctors, naturalists, housewives, scientists, administrators, ministers, foresters, artists, planners, students, public servants—people like you. Some live in Sitka,
some in other Alaskan communities, others around the country and the world.
