We invite you to
join us July 16–22, 2006 for the 22nd Sitka Symposium on the
important theme “Radical Compassion / Across the Great Divides.” A
distinguished group of writers, engaged thinkers, and spiritual
activists will lead our conversations. We welcome a broad audience
of readers, writers, and anyone interested in the complex ideas and
questions at the heart of our theme. We expect participants from
communities around Alaska, the U.S., and elsewhere.
The
Symposium week is rich with events that invite participants to come
together to explore the meaning of radical compassion in their
lives. Faculty will present talks, readings, and panel discussions,
and participate in small group discussions. Enroll as a full-time
participant and you’ll engage with them and other participants in
all these activities, as well as workshops offered by other notable
friends of the Institute. (Examples include "Writing Through
Despair" with Kathleen Dean Moore, author of The Pine Island
Paradox and other essay collections.) Check back here for
further details. Writers may also have a manuscript critique with
one of the faculty (if submitted by June 15). No more than 60 people
will be enrolled full-time so as to foster genuine conversation.
College credit is available from the University of Alaska.
If you’re not able to enroll full-time you may attend individual
faculty talks and evening readings. Part-time attendance is not
limited.
Special events open to all include an Evening Dessert Cruise and the
Symposium Banquet. Space for both these events is limited, and early
reservations are advised. |
