About Us

Campfire at Brent's Beach, Sitka, Alaska     Captain Jim Seeland arrived in Alaska in 1980 with his 6 month pregnant wife, and 1.5 year old daughter. We spent our first 2 years in AK on a remote island in Prince William Sound working at a salmon hatchery there.

We moved to Sitka in 1982 to work at a fledgling salmon hatchery. As the kids grew, so did our appreciation for Sitka and all it has to offer. Over the past 25 years we have come to love this town. Besides the abundant wildlife, lush temperate rain forest environment, and marine habitat, Sitka is just a great place to live and raise children. I want to share my experiences of living here: what we do in the winter, population dynamics of the town, the industries, and the past and present happenings. Sitka has an active/vibrant native community which is an integral part of what makes our town special.

In 2005 I left my job at the hatchery. Through work I got to visit with hundreds of visitors and enjoyed getting to know them and answering their questions. During the winter of 2005/2006 I acquired my 50 Ton Masters License from the United States Coast Guard with the idea of starting a boat tour business. The past couple of years have proven that this was a good move as I have had the privilege of sharing Sitka with so many great people.

With a B.Sc. in Fish and Wildlife Biology, an inherent love of the outdoors, and 25 years of hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking around Sitka, visitors can be assured of getting plenty of information about the area’s wildlife and activities.

We're easy to find once you reach Sitka - see this map. We look forward to sharing our world with you.
