Local Tour
I offer this to those of you who just want a taste of Sitka life and are short on time or do not want to spend much time on the water. This tour offers a
chance to learn about the town’s past and present, places to shop, eat, and recreate. The boat will skirt Sitka and provides a nice venue to introduce visitors to this
great place.
Tour time: 1 hour.
Cost: $50 per person with a 2 person minimum.
Silver Bay / Medvejie Hatchery
This is my favorite tour. We leave downtown Sitka and spend approximately 30 minutes on our way to the Medvejie Hatchery. Along the way we will look for
wildlife in the area and will stop for anything of interest. Near town I would like to share some past and present information about Sitka. As in all of the tours, I hope
that you will leave with a keen appreciation of how awesome our town is.
At the hatchery site we will disembark and spend approximately one hour touring the facility. How much time we spend here depends on individual level of
interest. At this site, we will go behind-the-scenes and you will have access to many areas that other visitors do not.
Hatchery operations are seasonal and revolve around the life cycle of salmon. In May and June you will see mostly juvenile salmon with some adult salmon
beginning to show up at the facility. As the summer progresses, more and more of the “show” will be experiencing the throng of returning adult salmon. After spending three
years in the North Pacific, these fish are heading home to spawn. Juvenile fish are also present at this time. August and September are exceptionally busy months and full
of activity.
After leaving the hatchery, we may have time to head down Silver Bay. The bay was alive with mining activity 100 years ago. Some remnants of that day still
remain. In the summer months, Salmon Lake Creek at the head of Silver Bay will be full of returning salmon.
Give this tour some consideration – most visitors come away rather astounded at what they’ve just seen!
Tour time: 2 hours.
Cost: $70 per person with a 2 person minimum.
Sitka Wildlife Tour
After leaving downtown Sitka, this tour will take you out into the waters of Sitka Sound and surrounding area. We may head north into Nakwasina Sound, out into
the open waters of Sitka Sound to St. Lazaria Island, or south to the Goddard Hot Springs area. There is no shortage of options for beautiful places to visit here. Again,
I will listen to your interests and do my best to meet your needs. Weather conditions play an integral role in recreating around Sitka and may help determine where we will
go on our adventure. There are so many options of places to visit that we will find something to suit your needs.
Tour time: 2.5 hours.
Cost: $125 per person with a 2 person minimum.
I have found that 2.5 hours is just enough time for most people, but we can work together to customize time frames to fit your schedule.
Rockfishing
“Rockfishing! Why would you want to fish for rocks? Well, you might want to and they are plentiful in Sitka, but a more popular sport is to fish for rockfish
which are also plentiful in our area. I offer this as either a trip focus or as an add-on to a wildlife tour.
I chose rockfish because they are fun and easy to catch. This is excellent recreation for those who do not fish much and perfect for kids. You can see the
variety of rockfish in our area by going to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game website.
We will provide everything you need for fishing except a sportfishing license which you can either get in Sitka or
online. A one day non-resident license is $20. Fishing for these guys is fast-paced
and low stress. We do not need to go out into open water or far from Sitka to find rockfish so there are a lot of destination options. Be assured that the setting will be
awe-inspiring!
Price per person depends on how much time we spend fishing and could range from half an hour (as an add-on to a wildlife tour) to all day.
Call or write for details on this option and to customize your trip.
All Day Tour
Spend the day with Sitka Sound Tours! This will allow us to travel a bit further from town to explore even more bays, passes, and some incredible wildlife
and scenery. We can drop crab pots, do a little beachcombing, or just idle around and see some new sites. There are so many beautiful places to see that the day will pass
quickly. Lunch, snacks, and beverages are provided.
Crabbing requires the purchase of an ADFG Sportfishing license which you can either get in Sitka or
online.
Tour time: 6-8 hours.
Cost: $200 per person for 3 to 6 people.
Other Tour Options
If none of the above tours appeals to you, give me a call or send an email! We can talk about options, what your interests are, and how much time you have to
spend. I’ve shuttled people to local cabins and beaches, spent entire days exploring the area, and just went out in the evening, anchored up and had supper. I love being
out on the water and meeting new people with the mission being that you enjoy your visit to Sitka.
