symphony glassworks
Symphony Glassworks is the evolutionary product of nearly 30 years of combined experience with glass. Beginning with leaded glass work in the early 1970s, we progressed to more intricate foiled pieces, combined foil and lead pieces (you know, shells, glasses, bottles) and foiled standalones. We moved to Alaska in 1984 to experience the Last Frontier. Alaska is a beautiful place to live, but, even in the year 2000, if you want something specialized, you have to make it yourself. This is true of tacos, burgers, hot dogs, music and most art. Frustrated with the unavailability of "custom" pieces, we bought our first kiln and dabbled with fused and slumped glass. Frustrated further with the limitations of fusing (kiln envy), we acquired a Hot-Head torch and burned glass for a while. We made the big move to oxy-propane in 1992. We've acquired two larger kilns, one for annealing and one for dipping and other gather work. Short of building a hot floor in the garage, I guess we are fairly well set.
