The Juneau Dance Festival was created in 1977, bringing guest artists for a month of teaching children and adults technique and repertory classes. In 1990, visual arts classes were introduced , and the next year, both music and theatre offerings filled out the program. Now called the Fine Arts Camp, the event is still held in June and 2010 marks its 33rd year.
In 1992, Juneau Dance Unlimited turned its focus from occasional guest artist dance workshops to sponsorship of a dance school taught by local instructors. In this way, Juneau had access to ongoing fundamental dance training.
Juneau Dance Unlimited offers classes for children, teens, and adults in Ballet, Modern, Creative Movement, and Jazz. Juneau Dance Unlimited is a nonprofit organization.
