

JDU also conducts workshops throughout the year with guest artists and offers a Summer Fine Arts Camp during the month of June.

JDU PRESENTS THE NUTCRACKER 2009
The magic of the holiday season comes to life in JDU's production of The Nutcracker, the heart warming tale of Clara and her beloved Nutcracker doll. You and your loved ones can share the tradition and spirit of the season by attending one of three performances: Friday, December 11 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, December 12 at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, December 13 at 2 p.m. The full-length production will feature Kristie Cordle-Infante as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Vitaliy Nechay as the Cavalier, courtesy of the California Ballet Company. In addition, over 35 JDU students and local dancers will perform. Tickets are $15 for adults; $10 for children (12 & under) and Seniors (60+); and $40 for families (4 or more). Tickets are available at the JDU office, Hearthside Books, the Juneau Arts & Culture Center, and at the door. The Nutcracker 2009 is supported in part by the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council, City and Borough of Juneau, Alaska State Council on the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, and Best Western Country Lane Inn.
LUNCH WITH THE SUGAR PLUM FAIRY IN THE LAND OF SWEETS
The Sugar Plum Fairy and several of her friends from the Land of the Sweets extend a personal invitation to attend the Sugar Plum Fairy Luncheon for an enchanting afternoon full of fun and memories. Children can meet a few of their favorite Nutcracker characters while enjoying a delicious lunch, plenty of sweets, holiday music, stories, and more. Each child will receive a complimentary photo with the Sugar Plum Fairy. The luncheon will be held Saturday, December 12, 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center (350 Whittier St). Tickets are $15 each. Families with three or more attending will receive a 15% ticket discount. Tickets are available at the JDU office or can be reserved (credit card payment required) for pick up at the luncheon entrance. Seating is limited, so purchase your tickets early! This is an annual fundraiser for JDU, so support us by attending this very special holiday event.
FALL 2009 SEMESTER CLASSES
Come dance with us! It’s not too late to register for classes. Check out our Fall 2009 semester class schedule and tuition information and get registered. Tuition rates are now being pro-rated for the semester. New students are encouraged to join us. An additional Studies in Movement class for students ages 4-6 has been added to our schedule! Classes continue through December 20. Call the JDU office for additional information.
BACHATA/SON DANCE INSTRUCTION with Antonio Diaz
Join us every Friday night, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., for this exciting dance class (no class November 13). Learn the traditional Cuban Son (the original Salsa), a beautiful, energetic, fun, elegant dance from Cuba and move to traditional music following its African roots and “the Clave”. Bachata is the latest Latin dance craze from the Dominican Republic. This style is smooth, romantic, and danced to the beautiful “blues” music of the DR. For adults and students over 14 years old. Preregistration not required. $10 per class/Adults and $8 per class/Students. Don’t miss it!
