The Plan

We would like to resolve the problem, but do to our financial dilemma; we are required to have the funding in hand before we proceed with the Plan. This can be accomplished in steps so that eventually the project will be complete. Cost and effect of each phase will be a factor in the decision process as to what to do first.

The original plan also recommended:

1. They may suggest something other than Armstrong Nubby or Optima.

2. You are looking for 1" thick fiberglass boards with values of NRC 0.85 or higher.  Resist the temptation to go with 3/4" thick board.  It will be cheaper, but it will also be less effective.”

3. The building committee recommended Ventwood acoustic wood slat system on a hidden track. I could not find what was recommended for the walls,

We Looked at the recommended Optima and Nubby panels and they may be fine for a warehouse or a gym, but are aesthetically unpleasant. GTS recommended http://www.armstrong.com/commceilingsna/article46152.html for the ceiling and http://www.jasco-usa.com/mfgquietouch.htm  for the walls. these are both very easy to install and aesthetically pleasing. These panels meet or exceed the .085 NRC ratings

The ceiling panels are connected to an aluminum track system via flat round plug nuts. they would be virtually invisible and accommodate the sprinklers. The Track system brings the acoustic tiles off the ceiling to gain the advantage of additional sound deadening.

The wall panels are a cloth backed fiberglass panel that attach via a simple "J" hook flush to the wall.

The auxiliary speakers are Yamaha MSP7 80/50w speakers fed by a Phonic WM-SYS3 wireless transmitter and receivers.

Based on the cost for materials and installation costs, we recommend the following order of completion. Once we have the finances available for a phase in the program installation would begin. We will not commit any financial expenditure without having the cash on hand. As you can see the plan focuses on acoustic baffeling (reducing the echo).

  1. Ceiling panels. This would be the most expensive do to. Hi lift equipment rental, labor costs and time involved. Do to the hi work required this may have to be contracted. GTS of Anchorage believes that the installation can easily be accomplished by Parishioners. We have been advised that we need to do the longitudinal portion of the ceiling and the two lower ceilings over the chaples.
  2. Additional Speakers (6) installed around the rear of the Church at the 12’ elevation level directed down toward the rear half of the pews.
  3. Walls. This would be the most efficient as long as we have parishioners accomplish the installation. We do not need to do the complete walls, but just the first 15' around the back 2/3's of the church. This will be accomplished in two phases. The back walls first then the side walls.
  4. Then in the future we may do:
  5. Carpet the concrete floor. The Carpet pattern would match the existing floor pattern.
  6. Pew padding: This may not be accomplished due to liabilities and maintenance costs.
