WORK EXPERIENCE

2001 to Present
	General Communications, Inc.
	Network and Security Engineer

Combining the skills acquired from my previous positions has enabled me to focus on building and securing large infrastructre networks. I am responsible for high-end routers and firewalls. Additionally, this position requires me to write policies and procedures which span from departmental to corporate-wide influence.

Feb 15th, 1999 to 2001:
	General Communications, Inc.
	Systems Engineer

My previous skills as a Network Analyst as well as System Administration enabled me to become an Engineer in a relatively short time.  My main focus as a Systems Engineer is to design and implement solutions based on direct customer requirements spanning networks, systems, and applications.

March 1997 to February 15, 1999:
	General Communications, Inc.
Network Analyst 2: Internet System Administrator

My role as System Administrator for GCI's Internet business goes far beyond merely care and feeding of the Unix and NT servers that make up the core service offerings to our customers. I am also a highly visible contributor to GCI's online gaming website. In addition, I create integrated solutions that bind the internet to a customer by developing middleware applications for the management of users, applications, operating systems, and network management systems. I am also heavily involved in the turn-up of new customers, as I plan for and administer the network addresses for our entire operation. I am often called on to design customer network access solutions, and am a key member of GCI's internet security team.

September 1996 to March 1997:
General Communications, Inc.
Senior LAN/WAN Technician - Network Analyst

I was contracted to BP Exploration, as part of a continuing telecommunications support contract through GCI. As an on-site contract employee, a professional attitude is the minimum requirement. My on-going commitment to provide the best support possible as allowed me to progress to the level of Senior Technician in a very short time. In addition to the duties covered below, I was involved in implementing a remote-access solution that could function before, during, and after BPXA's migration from Macs to PC's. My duties often called me out to extremely remote sites in the Alaska North Slope region to diagnose network problems over broadband terrestrial microwave links, as well as the easier task of installing new radio and network equipment at well pads, exploration sites, and seismic mapping camps in -50 degree weather.

June 1995 to September 1996:
	General Communications, Inc.
	LAN/WAN Technician

As part of an outsource agreement between GCI and British Petroleum, I was responsible for troubleshooting, fixing, and escalating network problems ranging from local token-ring networks to frame-relay over satellite across the continent. In addition, I was responsible for maintaining current documentation on the building network wiring, and IP address administration for the Alaska network. My duties also encompassed telephony, video conferencing, and remote-site support. Knowledge of the following companies' products is very important: 3Com, Accton, Alantec, Asante, AT&T, Bay Networks (Synoptics), Cisco, Chipcom, Cabletron, Digital, Farallon, Farinon, Network General, NewBridge, PCSI.

Summer 1993 to June 1995:
	University of Alaska Anchorage
		Network Technician

My work consisted of network hardware configuration and installation, communications closet wiring, network analysis, wide area security, mainframe and workstation configuration.

Summer 1991 to Summer 1993
	University of Alaska Anchorage
		Computer Consultant

My work as a consultant consisted of three areas. The first was answering diverse ranges of computer-related questions ; from logging into the mainframe VAX, to ADA programming. Second, as a seminar instructor, teaching topics from Beginning Mail to Surfing the `Net. Third, general upkeep of the lab equipment : P.C.s, Macs, vt100 terminals, line printers, laser printers and scanners.
