History of Trinity

Trinity is a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. It began as a mission development in the fall of 1985. Pastor Elliott Hull was called as Pastor/Developer. The congregation was originally known as "Four Corners Mission." The first worship service was held on February 2, 1986 here at the "Colony Barn" in the front half of what is now our worship room. The congregation was officially organized on November 8, 1987. Pastor Hull resigned his call in the summer of 1992 and Pastor Ivar Pihl served as interim pastor until Pastor Franzenburg was called in January of 1994. Pastor Jeff Merkel joined the staff in Fall of 1999.

In 1991 the building in which we are now worshiping was deeded to the congregation. In recognition of this gift, we are committed to using our building to serve the community in which we live. Our building houses the Dorothy Saxton Youth Shelter, The Mailing Center for Supported Employment Living Services, The Alaska Children's Choir (Valley Members), Trinity Preschool and Play Group and several small businesses.
