Tips on photographing your home for a portrait

Good distance, no strong sunlight, no obstructions. Final painting
Common Mistakes:

Good distance, good angle, but strong sunlight

Too much shadow, too close

Too close, too many cars, strong sunlight
PhotoTips
  • Stand back and include lots of picture around the house! Remember that a normal photo enlarged will be 8" x 12", so in order to reduce to an 8" x 10", two inches will have to be taken off the sides.

  • Avoid direct, head-on angle. Try to move off-center and include some of the side.

  • Avoid bright sunlight and deep shadows. Overcast days are best.

  • Try and move cars or avoid large trees in foreground.

  • If the desired angle and location is too close, take 2 or 3 overlapping VERTICAL photos from the exact same location. I can merge them.

  • Take multiple pictures and include details of season or landscaping.

  • Consider different angles of the house, sometimes the front is not the best.

  • I accept either print or digital photographs.
