History
The Marx Bros. Cafe was established in October, 1979. Prior to the establishment of the restaurant, the partners, Van Hale, Jack Amon, and Ken Brown, were well known for their Sunday evening gourmet dinners served at the Jade Room Lounge. The Jade Room operation also marked the beginning of catering activities by the partners. Catered events have included the grand opening of the Anchorage Fifth Avenue Mall in 1987 and the christening of the new Sealand vessel M/V Anchorage in 1988. Although the Marx Bros. Catering operation has delivered excellence to groups as large as 1000, most wedding receptions, holiday parties, and office receptions host between 100 and 300 guests. For each of these events, the three partners strive to present an affair to remember through quality foods, creative presentations, and unparalleled service.
In addition to an excellent reputation for fine dining and catering, the Marx Bros Cafe boasts one of the largest wine cellars in the State of Alaska, numbering 11,000 bottles. The restaurant has received several "Best Award of Excellence" for its wine cellar from Wine Spectator Magazine.
