The lead-line in a 1993 Juneau Guide article reads:

"Where Small Town Charm Meets Big City Diversity"

A further word included in the same article quoted a writer from Outside Magazine as saying:

"There's a snap to the air in Juneau, a guiding intelligence.
I've never run into a more ecclectic, smart, politically and
culturally aware populace in a town so small."

The article goes on to say,

"In this city of contrasts its possible to see professional
drama produced by nationally recognized theatre, or to
catch a salmon right off the shore. You can listen to
music at the State's largest gathering of musicians at the
annual Alaska Folk Festival, or enjoy the serenity of an
old growth forest."

Dr. Elizabeth Kubler Ross once characterized a place where she
was to lead a conference with the words,

"This place has good vibes!"

Such words surely summarize the impression of many who visit
Juneau for the first time, and the feeling they take with them
when they leave.
