What about Homework?

I give homework because there just isn't enough time during the school day to get all the practice needed to master the skills we must learn. Imagine a hockey team that never practices. They might know how to play the game but they will get beaten by teams that have sharpened their skills in practice.

I give homework in packets. These packets are given on Friday and are due the following Thursday. Students and parents have very busy lives and students can fit homework into their schedules this way. That way students have the maximum amount of flexibility to get it finished by Thursday.

Parents have a part in this. Sometimes students get stuck and need help. Your responsibility is to

  • Supervise your student.
  • Find or make time in the family schedule.
  • Set up a place to work away from distractions like the TV.
  • Stock the homework place with pencils, paper and things like that.
  • Help when your child doesn't understand the directions.
  • Check a few problems to catch any mistakes early.
  • Encourage when they get frustrated and work the tough ones together.
  • Remind your student to turn the work in on time.
  • Everyday Math may seem challenging. Don't give up on it.

You should expect to see your student working on homework. The packet might seem large but it will only be difficult if you wait till the last night to start. It will contain things we are doing in class each week. Late work will not receive the same point value as work turned in on time so don't forget to turn it in on Thursday.

Homework goes home on Friday.

Homework should be completed and turned in by Thursday.

And please check it to see if your name is on it.
